Schedule of Activities: (Break down your activity into a timeline of events. Focus on what students will be doing and what teachers will be doing during each part of the activity.)
Week 1 – Students will watch a Geography of the Caribbean video, and use internet and library resources to learn about the geography and culture of the Caribbean.
Week 2 – Students will continue their research on the Caribbean spending time learning about the economy. After all research is completed students will create a pamphlet describing the Caribbean’s geography, culture, and economy.
Week 3- Students will be assigned a student who goes to a public school in the Caribbean to be a pen pal with. They will write their first letters introducing themselves and asking about their pen pal’s life in the Caribbean. They will continue to write their pen pal for the rest of the semester.
How will these activities be assessed?
The students will be graded on the pamphlet they create. The students will be graded on how much they learned about the Caribbean by how well they apply the information while creating the pamphlet. They will also receive points for the letters they write to their pen pals.
Adaptations: How might the lesson need to be adapted for students with special needs?
If I had any special needs students in my class I would have the same lesson but have it done in pairs so the student’s partner can help him or her. I would also make sure the whole class is working in pairs so doesn’t make any special needs students feel different from the rest of the class.
Materials Needed: Go through each activity and identify what items (both technology and not) are needed to complete this lesson. Include a breakdown according to individual student or student groups.
